Further your career choices in the kitchen design sector with a flexible foundation degree
Why choose this course
This is a new course which has been designed in conjunction with key members of the kitchen industry and is in response to national training needs. It is designed primarily for employees already working in the sector covering a wide number of job roles. The course aims to provide a vibrant and challenging learning environment to help you develop your skills and knowledge of the industry and the important role that design plays within it.
Programme aims
The course is offered as a blended learning opportunity, comprising of three long weekend residential sessions each academic year where you will meet your fellow students, the course team and our industry supporters. These sessions will introduce you to key concepts, theories and knowledge which you will then continue to develop through distance learning using our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and social media where appropriate. The course can be completed in three years.
You will need access to a computer and the internet in order to take part. We will expect you to relate the knowledge you gain through the course to your working environment, so that you both learn from and develop your existing role. The curriculum covers design, materials, products and projects, providing an opportunity to increase your knowledge of the industry and how to undertake design projects.
It is underpinned by a visual and material culture module in years one and two. You will be encouraged to contribute to your learning experience through interaction with tutors, fellow students and industry partners.
The final year will be dedicated to an individual project, which will be a real situation which you have identified with the help and support of tutors and industry partners.
